ROOKIE OF THE YEARJOEL EMBIID NEW ORLEANS PELICANS The 2017 Rookie of the Year is awarded to Joel Embiid of the New Orleans Pelicans!
Embiid led all rookies in scoring with 20.2ppg and seemed to improve vastly as the season continued. Embiid has injury concerns coming out of college and has suffered a season ending injury, but the talent is certainly there. Injuries aside, Embiid looks like the best young big in the league with the potential to be in the mix for the top ten best fantasy players next season. He's showing zero signs of hitting the rookie wall. His performance has only been better as the season progressed. In his last 9 games, Embiid averaged 23.4 points, 9.1 boards, 2.8 assists, 2.6 blocks, 1.1 steals. He's basically turned into a 20-10 player from his rookie season.
The desire, work ethic and skill is all there for Embiid to be a revolutionary player.
- Joel Embiid had the highest PER of all rookies.
- Joel Embiid had the highest true shooting percentage of all rookies.
- Joel Embiid was the only rookie averaging over 30 points per 100 possessions
This award is easy to give to Embiid - he averaged 36.3 fantasy points while the next best rookie averaged 23.1. Congratulations to Embiid, and the New Orleans Pelicans!2015/16 Stats - 20.2ppg |7.8rpg | 2.1apg | 0.9spg | 2.5bpg

The Pelicans would like to congratulate Joel on his ROTY honours. Hopefully he can kick on next year to bigger and better things, most importantly more games. But also, lets not forget his tremendous 16/17 season in terms of his social media game. I dare say he is the NBA MVP in terms of that.
So, it is just a testament to the talent development guys we have here, as well as our scouts, that we have been able to have a guy in contention for the award last year, and now this year have one of our guys take it home.
Just goes to show, how much the league has to fear with the Pelicans. We are contending for titles, while also being stacked for the future.
