Timberwolves Send:
Kevin Love (11.0 11.0 11.0)
Pistons Send:
Derrick Favors (11.1 12.0)
2017 NYK 1st
effective cap implications: Timberwolves absorb $100,000 in cap spent for the 2016-17 season
I'd like to preface this by saying that I harbor the deep suspicion that Kevin Love might be a jerk. I have no real evidence to support that claim.
I'm trading a bona-fide All-Star having something of a great year (Love) for a guy Ihope think know can turn into something very similar, but maybe with less scoring and more defensive stats. His contract is a year shorter, but Favors is at an age where if he pans out, he's worth the re-sign. Also, one of a small handful of tradable picks in the upcoming allegedly seemingly probably definitely stacked draft. It might even be a pretty good one.
I guess I'm a gambler. We probably wind up with a scenario in the middle, but I can find a way to live with that.

- Best Case Scenario: I lose a couple more matchups than I would without this trade while Favors rounds back into form. He does that right around time for me to sneak into the playoffs and make a dark horse run to glory. The Knicks implode under the weight of KD squishing his big three and this turns into a lotto pick I can put next to Towns/Turner.
- Worst Case Scenario: Favors is toast, and he gets benched for Trey Lyles down the stretch. Ben Simmons shows up in two weeks and is immediately the best player in the NBA. Kevin Love continues shooting career high total/percent from three.
