Minnesota Sends:
PG Russell Westbrook (17.80)
C Dwight Powell (0.50 0.50 0.50)
Los Angeles Lakers Sends:
C DeAndre Jordan (14.00 14.00 14.00 14.00)
PF/C Miles Turner (3.30 3.40 4.30 5.70)
PG/SG Jordan Clarkson (1.20)
effective cap implications: Lakers sheds 0.20 million in cap for the 2016-17 season
Yeah, I know I know, the next time Westbrook comes to Minnesota it's gonna be like this:
This is a hard trade to make. Partly because Westbrook is the best, obviously, but also because he's pretty much my favorite. I was so jazzed when I traded into him this summer that I made a secret fake Twitter account for BG Russell Westbrook to help me resign him next year. I'm terrible at Twitter, so there are only two tweets, but still.
This is my first non-cat league, so it took me a little while to learn that rookies that only play seven minutes a night (if they're lucky) as the fourth option on their team hurt you a lot more in this kind of league than they do in a cat league. I need more depth if I want to win the title, and I want to win the title every year forever. Westbrook is one of the most valuable assets I have, and I wouldn't think of trading him...but:
*His next contract will be massive
*He will be worth it
*Until he isn't, then he's a massive, untradeable albatross
*I don't have an amnesty anymore, I used it to launch an era of financial flexibility, the spirit of which I am making this move in
So anyways, I made a list of the guys I'd trade him for, and only one was available: Myles Turner. I think he'll put up top 20 value, possibly as soon as this year, and we're right at the beginning of his career. He comes with DeAndre Jordan, a top 40 player just as athletically reliant as Westbrook, but on a much more mobile contract, and Jordan Clarkson, a guy who, I don't know, is maybe something? Probably something, but maybe not on this one year rental. I think this is a move I'll regret like five minutes from now but that I'll be happy I made not very far down the road. Bye Russ.
