On December 2nd, while going through the Master Roster, it was found that the Los Angeles Lakers had exceeded the salary cap by $16.77m. This was because the formula used to calculate 'Cap Remaining' was not including LA's cap hold of $24.25m. This issue was exclusive to the Lakers, no other team had cap hold missing.
The staff of Basketball Guru have discussed possible solutions while making sure to be fair to everyone. We believe the Lakers did not know they were over the cap, as the Master Roster said they were under it. They will be able to perform trades. However, they can only make trades that are cap positive. Any trade that is made must increase cap space, no cap neutral or cap negative trades. Even if the Lakers do not make any transactions this season, the cap problems they have from next year and onwards are staying and will have to be dealt with.
If the Lakers manage to get at or below $90m, they can make cap neutral or cap negative trades.
I would like to issue a formal apology to the entire league. This issue should have been caught sooner. I am sorry to those that I created work and stress for, particularly this week. The Basketball Guru team strives to bring the best dynasty basketball experience ever, and we will continue to get better.
