I'm not doing much with my cap, so I might as well get some future picks with this year's budget.
I accept.

Accept. I love Lance and Casspi is a solid role player, but I could use the extra cap space and roster flexibility.

I think the first rounder being sent by Boston is being undervalued but I accept.

While I definitely understand where you're coming from as far as being careful about depleting picks, I think i'm still fine here. I already have some solid young prospects on the team, some prospects that are stashed, I got a great pick in Poeltl. I picked up Kaminsky. I also will have my own first rounder this year in a stacked draft.
So I think I'm fine in that regard. In terms of pure value it isn't even maybe, but I see it as the cost of addressing two areas of need / concern. Having a third string SG from Philly as my backup SG is not an option if I'm looking to compete. Lance >> Stauskas. Then I add Casspi who gives me great depth at the wing position and who is on a very cheap contract. I was very limited in what I could get for a backup SG with my roster/cap space, so Lance was a nice option.
I think a roster comprised of:
Guards:
- Jeff Teague
- Kyrie Irving
- Avery Bradley
- Lance Stephenson
Forwards:
- Jae Crowder
- Rudy Gay
- Danillo Gallinari
- Omri Casspi
Bigs:
- Enes Kanter
- Jared Sullinger
- Marcin Gortat
- Frank Kaminsky
- Kelly Olynyk
Has a solid shot at contending.
So the way I see it is that it was an overpay, but if it can both address an area of need, as well as maybe push me over the edge, then it's worth it. IF i'm not in contention, which I think I will be at this point, then I have a lot of sell-able guys. Casspi himself will probably be worth a bit at the deadline for a contender looking to add someone who's only on a .5 contract.

I agree with Orlando. Even though that first rounder is four years from now, it is still a valuable asset that probably could have retrieved higher value than Casspi and Stephenson. I think the Knicks definitely won this trade but we'll have to see how Boston performs this year. They might be able to contend and these two players may just give them their needed boost. It'll be interesting to see.
I accept.
