The San Antonio Spurs are offering Al Horford a 4 deal worth 27 million with a team option in the fourth year. Horford will make 9 million/year for the 3 guaranteed years. Attached are players with comparable performances as Horford this season. As you can see there is a large salary variance ranging from 6 mil/year (Thad Young) up to 12 mil/year (Greg Monore). Last season Al Horford made 12 million. However the three players with somewhat similar production who made and will continue to make similar amounts are all several years younger and are entering the primes of their career. Al Horford is a injury prone center who is entering the last stage of his career. The last season before this one that Al Horford played an entire season was 2009/10. In 2011/12 and 2013/14 he missed the majority of the season with injury. On top of this, Horford derives some of his fantasy value from his 3pt shooting. A category not counted in our league. Lastly Horford is a UFA this year and it is unclear what his role and production will be on a new team. Given these facts, the current market and salary for players with similar production the San Antonio Sprus feel that 9 million/year is a fair deal to offer Al Horford. Al Horford 4 years (Team option in the 4th year), 9 million/year 27 million total

For me personally, I will get onto it on the 25th. I have two big exams to study for on Wednesday and Friday, then after that I will be all over it.

I don't have a stake in it, but don't unsigned free agents hit the free agency pool on June 24th?

Damn your logic Timberwolves. I thought it was end of the month.
Well I would go into more depth but I think that $9m is the appropriate amount for Al Horford. I think you have arrived, for me perrsonally, at the lowest possible acceptable salary. I would expect him to go for around 12 if he were to become a free agent, but this is why the re-signs are valuable. These guys want stability, and as we all know the Spurs are an excellent franchise, so I am pretty sure Al would take less money and to stay with such a classy organisation.
Anyway, I am not sure what to do here now but.
I accept.

I'm having difficulty approving this because I really think Al Horford would go in the $12-15m range, especially in this free-agent class.
I have to factor in Horford's dislike for the center position and San Antonio has brought in Marc Gasol to take care of that and I also admire the Spurs bringing in Aldridge this season and Milsap to help out at the power-forward position.
The success of the Spurs last season and their youth (Kawhi Leonard, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Devin Booker) are enough for me to accept this contract at $9m per. If the offer was any lower, I would have rejected.
2-0.
Resign passed.

I agree that 9mil is the absolute minimum that you could clear a resign for Horford. I think his value is more 10-13 mil, but for some of the reasons above, and because the offer is supported enough, I accept.
