ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
KARL-ANTHONY TOWNS!
Minnesota Timberwolves
The 2015 Rookie of the Year is awarded to Karl-Anthony Towns of the Minnesota Timberwolves!
This year's draft class was loaded with great talent like Jahlil Okafor Kristaps Porizingis, Emmanuel Mudiay, Nikola Jokic and of course Karl-Anthony Towns. While the players in the top 5 are all very close in terms of potential, the rookie of the year race was anything but close!
Towns led all rookies in scoring with 18.2ppg and seemed to improve vastly as the season continued. Town's season is one for the record books. He set the Timberwolves's rookie record for rebounds in a season and he probably will have a few more accomplishments for his rookie campaign. Towns may have turned in one of the most impressive rookie seasons of all time and he was thought to be a bit raw coming out of the draft. With the injuries surrounding Anthony Davis (shoulder, knee), Towns looks like the best young big in the league and is in the mix to go in the top five next season. He's showing zero signs of hitting the rookie wall. His performance has only been better as the season progressed. In his previous March games, Towns averaged 21.6 points, 10.4 boards, 2.7 assists, 1.4 blocks, 1.1 steals. He's basically turned into a 20-10 player from his rookie season.
The desire, work ethic and skill is all there for Towns to be a revolutionary player. In fact, he's already better than Anthony Davis was at the same age. Per 36 Kat is averaging 20/11 & 2.6 blocks. AD's rookie year per 36: 16/10 & 2.2 blocks. Plus AD missed 18 games his rookie year while KAT has yet to miss one. KAT is definitely the better rookie.
Where do the accolades end?
- Karl-Anthony Towns is on pace for the best ever PER by a rookie, age 20 or younger
- Karl-Anthony Towns is third in WS/4
- Karl Anthony-Towns is the youngest player in NBA history to get double-doubles in their first two games
This award is easy to give to KAT - he averaged 36.7 fantasy points while the next best rookie averaged 29.3.
Congratulations to KAT, and the Minnesota Timberwolves!
