A quick moment just to say: I hate this process. For you new kids out there, this used to be how *all* of the re-signs were supposed to go. You should go back and look at some of those 2015/16 re-sign threads, it's disgusting. The calculator was invented to get all of this subjectivity out of the process. We still have this, and I'm pretty sure approximately nobody likes it, but it does seem like a necessary tool to have around, as long as it's used properly. At least until one of you geniuses comes up with a better idea (please).
I am pretty conflicted about this particular thread.
I think this is the "right" amount of money. John Wall is obviously a great fantasy player. He's always been much better than this contract. But he isn't going to play for at least a year, he'll need time to re-acclimate to the game after that, and when he comes back I'd be floored if he is the same player.I genuinely 32-34 FP is the best case scenario at any time in this proposed contract, and it could easily take the first three years of it for him to get there.
I also think this is about the amount of money he is going to get in free agency, once Mavs and Pelicans deny this re-sign. Well, there probably won't be an option in the fourth year, but besides that I think it'll be within $1 million of this figure. And that's just not enough for me to deny the contract.
I approve.

Honestly think this is one of the most absurd approvals I've ever seen.
First off, you judge things on a per-game basis, not whether or not someone is eating a year or half a year. You don't get deductions for that. The goal is to find the appropriate re-sign value on a per game FPPG basis. That DMC or Wall or Klay or anyone else sits is completely fucking irrelevant.
John Wall has averaged 39-45 FPPG the last four seasons, and he just finished his Age 28 season.
Even if you assume a massive drop to 34 FPPG thats an $11m a year re-sign. 32 FPPG? That's a $9.5m a year re-sign.
Approving $7m a year is absolutely bonkers and sets a horrendous precedent.
You're saying you expect the player to go from 40 FPPG to 27. That's beyond the pale of generous, and rewarding an absurd, greedy re-sign proposal, and giving every other GM in the league the green light to expect ridiculous approvals.
A reasonable proposal would have been 9m to 10m. I think that should be approved. But 7m? Are you kidding me?
7m for John Wall blows my mind.
HIS CURRENT RE-SIGN VALUE IS 14.5M!!!!!!!!!

I think the resign process is working as intended. I don't know if the process is "broken" as some here seem to believe.
$7m would mean we're expecting John Wall to average 27 FPPG which I find highly unlikely. I would approve $10m/yr. I understand Wall is injured and there are concerns, but that is why his value goes from $14.5m to $10m. A further drop is unwarranted.
1-1

I appreciate the message from the Raptors. But I agree with the Mavs. 7m/year is far too low. If he was being re-signed this year, it is 14.5m/year. But he is injured, so how much money should a team save by being loyal to their guy? The main reason we have these re-signs so that teams can keep their best extremely few players. Or just guys that they love.
Lets run a quick test. So, if Wall doesn't play year 1 and we sacrifice all of his salary. If he comes back year 2 and averages half of his normal average we halve his salary. Then we say the final two years, we calculate on the 14.5m. That is still an average salary of 9m/year. Considerably higher than 7m.
I like to see something a bit more than 7m. I would also want 10m, as we shouldn't forfeit all of his contract for the non-playing year, as he still has value just being rostered. So, if we end up with halving the current value of his contract for the first two years, and paying the full 14.5m for the last two years. His contract goes to 10.5m per year. I would like the contract to be somewhere in this region, 10m-11m/year.

Unfortunately The Raptors and Mr. J. Hilfred Wall Jr. were unable to reach an agreement (he stated he has gotten tired of living in an igloo and would like to relocate to a warmer climate) and will be parting ways.
On behalf of the Toronto Raptors organization, we would like to thank the Trade Committee for their time and consideration. See you in FA!

Or the lack of discussion about these appeals which the league should have a vote on, or should have some feedback. The process needs to be refined. It’s bad right now.
