19. Troy Brown -- Philadelphia
C
A talented playmaker with a high IQ who can defend and has good size, but lacks touch and shooting mechanics, and only shoots 29% from 3. This
is a huge problem given he isn't athletic enough to survive in the NBA without approaching 36% from range.
He's a B grade in a D situation, as the Wizards are a really rough landing spot for him with Beal, Porter, and Oubre ahead of him on the wing.
20. Mitchell Robinson -- Portland
D
Bold pick taking a second-rounder who skipped college and sat out the entire season to train by himself at the #20 spot. Didn't Mudiay skip college to go play in China? This guy's got more bust potential than Lisa Ann's daughter.
Prototypical Blazers fare, however.
The big man center is an elite physical specimen who has been compared to Hassan Whiteside and is a dunking machine, and has good potential to provide rebounds, rim protection and catch lobs in the PnR, ala DeAndre Jordan.
Skipping college screams low IQ and poor decision-making, and given he went 35th in the draft, this is a huge reach with lots of talent still on the board.
This would be an F, but he's in a good situation with only Enes Kant-play-defense ahead of him.
21. Kevin Huerter -- Chicago
B+
Ah yes, Discount Klay Thompson to Trae Young's Poor Man's Steph Curry. I look forward to the Hawks trading for KD Clone Brandon Ingram and Draymond-lite Jonathan Isaac, to become the Atlanta Hobo Warriors.
I once ordered an All Meat and Kevin Huerter showed up -- that dude has serious pizza face. But I digress.
Huerter shot 42% from deep and 76% from the line, and should form an interesting tandem with Triple Trae. I'm honestly pretty baffled Portland didn't take him at 20 to get both. Then again, I'm baffled by most of what Portland does.
If GM Travis Schlenk's bootleg version of the Warriors pays off, this could prove an excellent pick this deep into the draft, as Kevin has solid fantasy potential, averaging over 37 potentials per 30.
22. Robert Williams -- Vancouver
A-
Is Robert Williams still the steal of the draft if you take him 6 spots ahead of the actual draft? Interesting philosophical question.
As Mavs well knows, Robert Williams immediately passes the name test, with two strong first names. That right there turns this pick from a B+ to an A-.
The situation is decent but not great, falling behind Horford and Baynes, but could be a great pick long-term, and Vancouver isn't competing anytime soon.
The Texas A&M product is a fantastic athlete who should thrive as a rim runner catching lobs and grabbing boards, while providing rim protection and has
the agility to switch onto guards -- perfect for the modern NBA.
CBS labeled him the American Clint Capela.
Should prove a nice asset down the road if the Grizzlies stay patient, as opposed to being the patient... in a burn ward... after taking on Brandon Knight's
16m... for regards.
D I S G U S T I N G.
23. Chandler Hutchinson -- Portland
Late-blooming, 22 years old, mid-major conference, Jared Dudley comp, and his first name is Chandler.
F
24. Dzanan Musa -- Denver
D+
My first thought when evaluating Dzanan Musa... is that he has an incredibly weak chin. Not sure there's any coming back from that.
The eurotrash Small Forward from Bosnia and Hergoazegoasfivina is a shooter with a quick trigger. He can also finish at the rim without being choked,
something it seems Denver is very likely unable to do, making Dzanan a good fit on his team.
That said, he has poor shot selection, was a miserly 32% from 3, has a low release on his jumper, is a defensive liability, and doesn't rebound, making
him a tough sell.
He also went way ahead of where he did in the NBA -- rarely a good sign.
25. Josh Okogie -- Milwaukee
A
Very nice value late in the draft, as the Georgia Tech shooting guard shot up draft boards after an excellent combine, showing off the potential to be
an excellent 3-and-D player.
A plus defender who shot 38% from the 3 point line with the ability to shoot off the dribble, while also showing a high BBIQ off the ball, with smart
cuts and, like OJ Simpson after a bad breakup, has potential as a slasher.
Part IV, covering picks #26 to #32, will go up tomorrow
