So here's my reasoning on this trade:
1.) I'm likely using my last two resigns this period on Gobert and Klay. I have Whiteside under control for 3 years.
2.) To build a championship contender, you need star players, or players with high 30fppg abilities. Whiteside had a down year, but even in his down year he still produced around 30fppg. That means that if he reaches his potential, he will be worth even more then his contract.
3.) Center is a position of need.
4.) I'm waiving Stanley Johnson, so I'll be under 90mil.
5.) I can make moves to open up cap space and fill my roster.
6.) Immediate contention is not my focus this year while owning my own pick. Next year a ton of cap opens up for me with the reduction of Klay's contract and dead money off the books. Also, Irving's contract will get cheaper a year after that, so locking in these 30+fppg players in, or entering their prime when all the rest of my money is available is a good position to put myself in.
I accept.

RHJ and Mirotic is a solid return for Whiteside. Boston gets a guy who's value is at his lowest and could still be a ~37 FPPG scorer in the right situation.
I approve

I approve. Whiteside is not my guy and I wouldn't bet that his best season is in front of him. Mirotic totally is my guy and I think he's for real. I don't really rate these other guys, although I can't deny they put up a rosterable number of points. All of that said, if Celtics gets the Whiteside from a couple of years ago, this is a huge win for him. There are only so many players with the potential put up the kind of numbers that make it impossible to lose a week, and Celtics went and grabbed two of those players in one day.

My reasoning for making this trade is de-risking my portfolio and gaining as many valuable assets as possible for Whiteside.
I am in a championship window for the next 2 years, and Whiteside is coming off an injury, lost minutes to Olynyk, and has Bam Adebayo coming up. ESPN reported his IRL trade value is low, meaning it may be difficult to trade him this season. If he doesn't repair the relationship with Miami and doesn't get traded, he falls to 22 minutes playing time and 30 FPPG this season. I don't want to risk that, plain and simple -- I can't waste a year.
Whiteside is 28yo, has been very healthy his whole career, low mileage, and posted seasons of 37/39/33 FPPG the past 3 seasons. I fully believe once he either gets traded (most likely) or gets into Spo's good graces (less likely), he can regain his value as a monster producer in fantasy. He's useless in the playoffs, the center position is declining, and he plays stat-stuffing, losing basketball -- but so does Dwight Howard, and he's been putting up 35-36 FPPG into his mid thirties. Whiteside is in his prime, and once traded should regain his value and be a fantastic asset. We're here to get fantasy points, not win actual basketball games. GMs in Guru are a bit too focused on IRL value. Whiteside has legit fantasy value.
I, however, do not want to risk having to wait a year for that to happen. If the season starts poorly and he's still on Miami, his value will completely crater until he's traded, meaning you're stuck with 30 FPPG for the year until he regains his value for the final 2 years of his contract. That is a much better fit on Boston, who isn't a contender this season, and can get the 38 FPPG monster we know he is next season.
The market for Whiteside in Guru was mixed. Three GMs did not like him. Mavs did. I got an offer of Myles Turner for him but it was one of those Mavs "feel out what you're willing to give then pull the offer" type shenanigans. I felt the haul of RHJ/THJ/Mirotic was a superior offer, and took it.
How I view the assets in return: THJ is a 27 FPPG guy on a 500k deal -- it's one of the best cheapo one-year contracts out there, and helps me win now. Mirotic is 27yo and locked into a fantastic 3.5m, 3 year deal. He put up 30 FPPG with Boogie/AD starting, and he put up 30 FPPG without Boogie. The addition of Randle for Boogie changes nothing. He is a primo shooter who has come into his own, and should continue to put up around 30 FPPG for the duration of the contract. RHJ is a very promising 22yo on a rookie contract for two years producing 28 FPPG and rising. Many GMs in the league have said they're very high on him. I don't have a personal opinion on him, I just like his FPPG, he's #1 on the depth chart at his position, his contract, his youth, and how he's perceived in the league giving him great trade value.
I don't need Whiteside's 38 FPPG to win. I do need 30 FPPG from 1 player. Mirotic gets me there on the same number of years, for 10m less per year. Whiteside's worst case is 30 FPPG, so I like the swap.
RHJ is a promising young guy who has upside and value in trades, or I can keep him and get 28 FPPG. THJ gets me a cheapo contract for 27 FPPG, which is a nice bonus.
The 7m in salary saved can be used for small signings throughout the year, or I can now easily create 10-12m in cap space to go after Kyle Lowry for another 30 FPPG without giving up assets.
This is my reasoning for making this trade, and I hope Portland finds it satisfactory.

I approve.
I have no idea where Whiteside stands these days. If he gets minutes he is a beast, but the game seems to be moving away from these types of centres, that have no outside game only. So I would personally be worried that he can be the statistical beast he has been, while staying in Miami where Spo will probably opt for flexibility and spacing going forward.
However, this is also impossible to tell. But just these questions bring Whiteside's value down a bit.
I think the return is absolutely right. Potential players you need to use a re-sign on to keep, but both also have question marks on them. RHJ and THJ are both "what if" guys to me, and if they can have another good season or two, they are definitely worth the re-sign.
Anyway, overall I'd say it is a very fair trade. Good job by both involved.
