Portland trades:
2018 Draft pick #5 2020 Pelicans 2nd Dejounte Murray (1.8)(2.7)(3.8) Caleb Swanigan (.6) (.7) Milos Teodisic 3.0 (3) Lineup Infraction 2.5 Sindarious Thornwell .6 Paskal Siakam .5 Omri Casspi .5
Total: 9.5 mil.
Denver trades:
2018 #7 Taurean Prince (2.1)(2.8)(3.9)
I accept. This is a steep financial price to pay for me, but my mind has changed about a few guys in the draft. The cap space this year doesn't concern me greatly so it comes down to the #5 > #7 and Taurean relatively equal to Dejounte (I see big things for both in the next few years, but am a bit higher on Taurean).

Interesting trade. The cap implications are sort of negligible (when the pieces are small like this they're relatively mobile), the pick swap is pretty face value (Portland's solid justification in the chat aside), so it comes to Prince for Murray making that up--I like Prince more, but it's easy to take either side of that one. I approve.

I think Portland is giving up a lot of value in this trade and here's why:
Portland is giving up the two best assets in this deal: Dejounte Murray and the #5 pick. Murray is already putting up 14 PPG, 5 APG, and 10 RPG per 36 and is the starting point guard of the San Antonio Spurs playing for the greatest coach of all time. He only averaged 22 MPG last season with a 20.1 usage %, both lower minutes and lower usage rate than Prince while averaging only 3 less FPPG. Murray is also three years younger than Prince and did I mention Murray doesn't have the yips!?
So Portland dumps some contracts but that's irrelevant given his tanking status next season and how he's already flush with cap space after getting under from Dwight Howard's contract. It's not even a significant amount of salaries to really talk about it as a benefit.
On top of trading the most promising player in this deal, Portland also gives up a higher pick and a second rounder to go along with it.
I'm not sure what the TrailBlazers are doing, but I can't see a way to spin this in a way where he comes out on top of this deal.
I approve
