Our league's free agency period will be based off of a bid system. Here's how the process works:
Unrestricted Free Agents (UFA)
- Use the Master Roster spreadsheet to view all available free agents and identify those you want to bid on
- Under the Free Agency Thread (under Offseason), post your player under the correct position in a new thread
- Include contract terms (how much money and for how many years)
- You can offer up to 4 years
- Once you start the thread, other GMs can place a bid by leaving a comment
- Each new bid must increase the average yearly salary by at least $.5 million OR 1 year
- A team cannot redact or withdraw an offer once it has been submitted
Regarding Max Deals: There is NO MAX set for salaries, only years. Knowing this, it is highly recommended that you don't blow half your cap on a single player. But, it is up to you. We're all savvy enough to be unsupervised with our money, right?
Example:
John Smith, PG.
3 years, $10 million/year
$30 million total
The next bid has the be at least:
3 years, $10.5 million per year OR 4 years, $10 million per year
When you’re bidding, you can attach a team option to the last year of the contract but it will not count towards the total.
So:
John Smith, PG.
3 years, $10 million/year
$20 million total, team option on the third year
Is Less Than…
John Smith, PG.
3 years, $10 million/year
$30 million total
- Once a bid has stood for 48 hours, you win that player at the most recent bid you placed
- You can only bid money that you have. For example, if you have $20 million in cap room, you CANNOT bid more than $20 million combined in all of your bids
Restricted Free Agents (RFA)
- If a player has RFA status on the spreadsheet, he qualifies for this type of bidding
- Send a PM to the RFA Representative with the name of the player you are bidding on in the subject, and your actually offer in the message
- This account will remain closed until bidding is over, then opened up to sort through the bids
- The highest bids will be sent to the GM who owns the rights to the RFA who was bid on
- That GM has 48 hours to either match the offer or decline
- If declined, the RFA will go to that highest bidder
- If a restricted free-agent does not receive any offers, his team will be notified and given an option to either place him in the off-season free-agency pool or adhere to the Re-Sign Rules and resign the RFA.
